Risk Modeling

Inform Policing Resource Allocation

Armed Robbery, Chicago, 2017

An Urban Spatial Analytic Class project where Joyce practiced risk modeling approach that integrates spatial structure of crime incidents. Considering built environment as main risk factors to build a proto, Joyce applied skills in data wrangling, feature engineering, data frame building, cross-validation, and cross-model comparison. In addition, she emphasized data equity issues, especially through selection bias that may be the result of over-policing, etc,

As the regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada (RTCSN) continues to oversee regional growth and environmental stewardship, this growth model provides an insight on future Northern Nevada land use pattern that remains environmentally and economically sustainable. Based on the development pattern and population growth in 2000-2010, the authors predict for future development and recommend planning focus on density development area, TOD, and areas likely to receive greater growth.

Predicting

Residential Housing Activity

Philadelphia, PA

In this data analysis and visualization work, Joyce and Shiyun attempted to observe spatial-temporal trend of neighborhood gentrification from new residential project. Despite that the data was limited and gentrification a sophisticated phenomenon, the two work collaboratively in building up a potential model and data visualization, and establishing a precedent for predicting gentrification.

Joyce was mainly responsible for data frame building, data visualization, and app idea pitching as demonstrated in the video.

Site Suitability

ArcGIS Analysis

Central East California

This is a site suitability scoring exercise for a public art installation from Modeling Geographic Space at PennDesign. The analysis is based on satellite images and desirable criteria that reflect both site-specific and condition-specific needs.

Joyce delivers this project and hopes similar technology and modeling would be useful for site selection for many kinds of business, environmental, or social causes.
